Daliwonga Tshangela

Director of Music

Born in Soweto, Daliwonga Tshangela started taking cello lessons at age 13 at a strings project founded by Kolwane Mantua, the African Youth Ensemble. At 15, started studying with Prof Van der Geest and at age 20, was given full scholarship to study music in Chicago. After obtaining his Master's degree, Daliwonga returned to South Africa where he became Cello lecturer at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, a post he held for 4 years. 2007, he joined the Johannesburg Philharmonic orchestra and in 2014, started teaching at Morris Isaacson Centre for music.
